Creating meaningful connections
One Palestinian and one Jewish teacher that both teach in Palestine will teach a joint class combining two styles of yoga: vinyasa flow and ashtanga. The class will emphasize connection and creating space. The class will be followed by a discussion about Jennifer and Jamey's experience teaching yoga in Palestine.
Yoga in Palestine
Jamey and Jennifer will speak about their experience teaching yoga in Palestine. Jennifer, who teaches in Ramallah, cultivates classes aimed at creating spaciousness through breath – to combat trauma, ease tension and stress in the mind and body, and to allow for connection beyond traditional debate. Jamey, who teaches yoga in Hebron and Beit Ummar will discuss his work with children living under very difficult circumstances. His classes with the children combine breath and movement while also teaching some basic words in English.
Jamey started practicing yoga in San Francisco with various teachers in the Bay Area in the late 90's. Since then, he has lived in various cities around the world, studying and practicing; he began teaching in Thailand in 2004. James has completed two teacher trainings, one at Purple Valley in Goa with Julie Martin and one in New Zealand under John Scott. He currently lives in Tel Aviv, where he teaches Mysore classes, and he also works with Palestinian children in Hebron and Beit Ummar.
